Your tax dollars at work: First dog Bo is airlifted to Obama vacation home

Rooms have to be found for dozens of Secret Service agents, someone has to carry a selection of presidential basketballs, and of course the family dog needs his own state-of-the-art aircraft.Bo, the president's Portuguese Water Dog, arrived separately on one of two MV-22 Ospreys, a hybrid aircraft which takes off like a helicopter but flies like a plane. It was the first time the Ospreys have been taken on holiday by a US president.More than 70 hotel rooms, each costing up to $345 (£220) a night, have been booked out for Secret Service agents, who took charge of luggage including two large mesh bags full of basketballs. The Obamas are staying in Chilmark on the western tip of the island, an area that is dotted with multi-million dollar homes. The neighbours include actor Ted Danson and the singer Carly Simon. On several previous visits the Obamas had stayed at the 28-acre Blue Heron Farm, but it has since been sold to Britain's most celebrated architect, Baron Foster of Thames Bank. The president has therefore had to downsize to a $7.6 million, 5,000-square foot retreat on nine acres which is owned by a businessman friend from Chicago. It includes a basketball court. As a result Mr Obama will be staying closer to public roads which will have to be closed as his motorcade heads for the golf course of bookshop. The Martha's Vineyard Times newspaper warned residents to expect "extraordinary and lengthy up-island detours". Local officials also emailed residents, saying: "Anyone aggrieved by this closing should email or call the White House."

She's been keeping a low-profile in recent months after recuperating from her hip surgery and working on her new album.

And as Lady Gaga starts to build buzz around her upcoming album Artpop and new single, she has been returning to the spotlight... and her flamboyant wardrobe.

As the singer attended a listening party and dinner for her third studio album in Beverly Hills on Thursday, she opted for a structured gold dress.

With such a striking dress and matching gold platform boots, Gaga opted for a more natural make-up look than usual.

The New Yorker, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, completed her outfit with a long gold wig.

Gaga's appearance came the night before she unveiled a new promotional picture from her new album, which will be released as a phone app.

The photo sees Gaga - apparently naked - with an unusual visor covering her face.

Gaga announced on Friday that her new single would be released on August 10, with the album/app following on November 11.

Describing the album, the press release said: 'The app itself is a musical and visual engineering system that combines music, art, fashion and technology with a new interactive worldwide community 'the auras'. Altering the human experience with socal media, we bring ARTculture into POP in a reverse Warholian expedition.

'Exploring Gaga's existence as a cultural interface, the user will share in the 'adrenaline of fame' as they build and share their own projects, chat with one another and watch in real-time on a virtual globe as ARTPOP explodes into the physical and virtual universe at once on November 11, our 'Big Bang'.

'On this day, HAUS OF GAGA venges (sic) with forte to bring the music industry into a new age, an age where art drives pop and the artist once again is in control of the icon.

'In turn, the album ARTPOP musically mirrors Gaga's creative process as she passes through the mediums of each artist she collaborates with, scoring a blueprint of her journey. The result, a 'rage' of electronic passion and fury, defining each artistic process from beginning to end, Artpop could mean anything. But for her, this is a celebration of obsession.'

Gaga's Facebook posting comes after she has given herself a self-imposed Twitter ban since June 26.

The profile photo and backdrop has been removed and replaced with the standard Twitter egg icon.

However, it is believed Gaga will return to Twitter once her single comes out next month.

ur old news gaga... no one cares... guess why ur shows were empty??? cause ppl dont pay to see u.. ur fans can buy millions of copies to make ur album #1 but when ur tuor starts u will find the seats empties...

Oh what a has been another flop album.

Ha ha ha just realised who she reminds me of in that dress ...Dot Matrix from Spaceballs played by Joan Rivers...

I had absolutely forgotten this woman existed, how odd. I do like her nose now, much improved.

Looks like they're planning to release two singles before the album - doesn't bode well for their confidence in the procuct.

I'm much more excited about the new arcade fire album later this year

Er - fashion fail on this one I think. Awful dress.

She's not really much of a looker is she?!

Its funny how Gaga only dresses this way and takes her clothes off in public when she's trying to promote a new album. So fake. I would love to see what she was actually like in real life and not just the image that she tries to hard to portray. For someone that goes on and on about being yourself, I think every she does, says and wears is highly planned out.

Time to admit you've had heaps of surgery, Gar Garrrrr! Hypocrite.

Vote in the first People's Rock Hall Sidemen Election!

Sidemen Election nominees the Funk BrothersThis month, the People's Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame is celebrating a milestone, as we begin our 20th election.  As a way of celebrating this "anniversary", we will begin having special elections which will occur on a rotating basis starting this month. Before we have our regular three week election period, we will have a special one-week period where we vote on one of four different categories. This time around we are looking at sidemen and session musicians. In coming months, we'll also vote on songwriters, "oldies" artists who need a second look, and non-performers. After doing votes on all four, we go back to sidemen again. Anyone elected in these special elections will join that class of inductees as a full member of the People's Rock Hall. Our first 15 nominees for the sidemen election are listed below along with a brief explanation of why they are noteworthy. You will probably notice that some noted sidemen who emerged in the mid/late 60s onward are not on this list. Since this is our first sidemen election, we are starting with those who were active in the early years of rock 'n' roll, and will add some later names when we cycle back again to our next sidemen election. So all you Mick Ronson, Mike Bloomfield, and Nicky Hopkins fans, don't worry, they'll get a shot next time around.HOW TO VOTE: Below is a list of fifteen candidates for the People's Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame.
