No Foul Play Found in Six Flags Death

No Foul Play Found in Six Flags DeathNo Foul Play Found in Six Flags Death, Police have found no evidence of foul play in the death of a woman who fell from a 14-story roller coaster at Six Flags Over Texas, a spokesman for the local police department said Sunday. But how she got loose from the ride's restraints remains a mystery. The woman died early Friday evening after falling from the Texas Giant, a wood-and-steel roller coaster at the Arlington, Texas, theme park. The ride had undergone a $10 million renovation two years ago.Sgt. Christopher Cook said the Arlington police department is preparing a report about the death that likely would be released Monday. He declined to release the name of the victim, but the Dallas Morning News and other news organizations have identified her as Rosy Esparza of Dallas.Sgt. Cook said that after the report is released, the police department doesn't plan to investigate further given that the death appears to be an accident. The state Department of Insurance doesn't investigate accidents either, leaving Six Flags with the responsibility of figuring out what went wrong.Six Flags said it would use every resource available to determine what happened and would share more information when it is available.Kenneth Martin, an expert on roller-coaster safety, said it could take some time for details to emerge due to the high likelihood of a lawsuit and the fact that theme parks are exempt from federal oversight. While the state Department of Insurance is in charge of making sure each ride has insurance coverage and receives an annual safety inspection, the department doesn't investigate accidents. In addition to annual inspections, theme parks are supposed to check the safety of each ride daily and make that log available to law-enforcement officials on request, said Jerry Hagins, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Insurance. The Texas Giant had a sticker authorizing its safe use until February 28, 2014. Mr. Hagins says the ride is now required to be closed until it is reinspected and approved. When it was renovated, the Texas Giant required a new prototype car and unique lap-bar restraint to handle significant gravitational forces. The designers worked with Gerstlauer Amusement Rides of Germany to create a restraint that also secures legs and ankles tightly but was still comfortable.Tobias Lindnar, project manager for Gerstlauer Amusement Rides, told the Dallas Morning News that the company has never had problems with the safety bars in its cars. Gerstlauer has built about 50 roller coasters world-wide and no one had been seriously hurt or killed on one of them before, Mr. Lindnar said.According to the Amusement Safety Organization, which documents amusement-park accidents, riders of the Texas Giant suffered nearly a dozen neck-related injuries in 2012 and 2013. A spokeswoman for Six Flags didn't immediately return a request to confirm the figure. The Texas Giant climbs 153 feet, then drops almost straight down, the steepest drop of any wood-and-steel roller coaster. It was named best new ride of 2011 by Amusement Today.Four people a year die on average while riding amusement-park rides, according to a national 2005 report from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Why Dwight Howard Will Win an NBA Championship in Houston

What's up everyone! Hope everyone is having a great Monday so far! Unless you have been under a rock recently, you know about Dwight Howard going from the Los Angeles Lakers to the Houston Rockets in a seemingly season-long debate about what would make Dwight happy? Is he happy being in LA knowing that its Kobe Bryant's team and having to live up to the expectations of the Laker mystique from Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, James Worthy, and other great Lakers? Can he survive in a major media market where he is expected to be one of the top guys and to have a franchise around him? On, and on, and on. Had it gone much longer, it was going to be on LeBron James Decision 2010 level for sure. Be that as it may, Howard has choosen his new destination, which will be Texas, to play for the Houston Rockets. The Rockets, to their credit, brought out all of the big hitters for the actual pitch to Dwight, to having Yao Ming Skype in from China, to having Hakeem Olajuwon, Kevin McHale and James Harden all go to Los Angeles to sell Dwight on this endeavor. And I think this will be a match made in heaven for Dwight, as long as he wants it to be, and here are the reasons why: 1) Houston is a market that can definitely support who Dwight Howard is as a person. Houston is a major media market, but its not overwhelming and pressure-laden as New York, Los Angeles and Chicago can be. With Dwight being in Houston, the people are instantly going to give him the benefit of any doubts they may have had about him in terms of his work ethic, characters, personality, etc. He has already begun to endear himself to the people of Houston by recently buying breakfast for an entire restaurant of people. No one can deny that Howard is a people person, and being in Houston will truly be able to give him that opportunity to let his personality shine without the added external pressures from media and fans. 2) He has WILLING mentors around him to help. Many people don't always realize it, but the Rockets have had a variety of bonafide Hall-of-Famers come through their franchise over the last 25 years, and they have showed that they are truly willing to help Dwight Howard become a better player, a person and a winner. It is widely noted that Hakeem Olajuwon worked with LeBron James last summer to help him work on his post up game and it was clearly evident during the season and into the Miami Heat championship run. Its clear that Howard needs mentors in order to help improve his game and to truly be a dominant center in the 4th quarter of games, and by doing that, not only will his game improve but his overall image will improve as well. Fans, players and management want to see that "killer instinct" that many of the greats have, and I do believe that between Clyde Drexler, Olajuwon, Yao and others that will help him, Dwight Howard will eventually develop some form of it. In Los Angeles, there didn't seem (at least from the outside) as though many of the legends were willing to help him develop, they were hoping for a finished product already. I think that Kareem, Magic, Worthy and even Kobe should have helped Howard a bit more with the adjustment process to the city of Los Angeles as a whole. It may not be the most popular opinion in the world, but everyone knew what they were getting when Howard showed up, especially after the situation that happened in Orlando when he had wanted to leave. The Lakers and their fans believe that the minute that any player shows up, they should instantly understand the idea of winning championships and nothing else is acceptable, and I do get that as a sports fan. However, Howard is not built like that. Any championship that he will win it will organically happen and not really through force, which Howard is very okay with, or so it seems. 3. He has the best nucleus of players he has ever played with. In Orlando, Howard didn't have much to work with at all. Im sorry but Jameer Nelson is not going to be the key to anyone winning an NBA Championship, nor will he be the cog and the missing piece of the puzzle for that. I can understand Howard wanting, and maybe even needing to leave that situation. In Los Angeles, yes he had Kobe Bryant, but he was with Pau Gasol, and I don't care what anyone says, Gasol is not the same player he was back in 09 and 10. Metta World Peace, who is not the fierce defender he used to be, an aging Steve Nash, and a bunch of role players. Had Dwight stuck around, there is the possibility that a strong nucleus could have been put around him in the summer of 2014, but there is no guarantee. Now with Houston, Howard instantly goes into a situation with James Harden, a bonafide superstar already, and possibly Jeremy Lin, who is improving as a PG each day. To go along with a sharpshooter like Chandler Parsons, the Rockets have a deep, youthful squad that can run with teams such as Denver, New Orleans, Oklahoma City, and can grind it out with teams like the Lakers, Spurs, and Mavericks in the West. I think they are one piece away to deal with Miami but the pieces are perfectly in place to have a major growth spurt that will challenge any team in the league this season. Howard has to get the job done in Houston. No question about it, but at least he does have help around him to make it happen, and all of the pressure will be evenly distributed each night. At the end of the day, smaller pressure and a championship will bring the biggest smile to his face, as well as his fans' faces.

Golden Gaga: Singer steps out in metallic dress as she unveils first image and ... - Daily Mail

Third album/app Artpop will be released on November 11First single, as yet untitled, will be released on August 19

She's been keeping a low-profile in recent months after recuperating from her hip surgery and working on her new album.

And as Lady Gaga starts to build buzz around her upcoming album Artpop and new single, she has been returning to the spotlight... and her flamboyant wardrobe.

As the singer attended a listening party and dinner for her third studio album in Beverly Hills on Thursday, she opted for a structured gold dress.

Golden girl: Lady Gaga leaves a building in Beverly Hills after her Artpop dinner

Creating excitement: Gaga showed some promotional artwork from her new album on her Facebook page

With such a striking dress and matching gold platform boots, Gaga opted for a more natural make-up look than usual.

The New Yorker, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, completed her outfit with a long gold wig.

Gaga's appearance came the night before she unveiled a new promotional picture from her new album, which will be released as a phone app.

Helping hand: Gaga was guided out of the party by a male companion

The photo sees Gaga - apparently naked - with an unusual visor covering her face.

Gaga announced on Friday that her new single would be released on August 10, with the album/app following on November 11.

Describing the album, the press release said: 'The app itself is a musical and visual engineering system that combines music, art, fashion and technology with a new interactive worldwide community 'the auras'. Altering the human experience with socal media, we bring ARTculture into POP in a reverse Warholian expedition.

'Exploring Gaga's existence as a cultural interface, the user will share in the 'adrenaline of fame' as they build and share their own projects, chat with one another and watch in real-time on a virtual globe as ARTPOP explodes into the physical and virtual universe at once on November 11, our 'Big Bang'.

Structured: Gaga's dress accentuated and exaggerated the singer's curves

'A rage of electronic passion and fury': Gaga has promised fans a very different experience with her new album

'On this day, HAUS OF GAGA venges (sic) with forte to bring the music industry into a new age, an age where art drives pop and the artist once again is in control of the icon.

'In turn, the album ARTPOP musically mirrors Gaga's creative process as she passes through the mediums of each artist she collaborates with, scoring a blueprint of her journey. The result, a 'rage' of electronic passion and fury, defining each artistic process from beginning to end, Artpop could mean anything. But for her, this is a celebration of obsession.'

Going for gold: Despite its eye-catching colour, Gaga's outfit was relatively tame in comparison to others she's worn

Gaga's Facebook posting comes after she has given herself a self-imposed Twitter ban since June 26.

The profile photo and backdrop has been removed and replaced with the standard Twitter egg icon.

However, it is believed Gaga will return to Twitter once her single comes out next month.

Puffing away: Gaga was spotted smoking a hand-rolled cigarette in her car in New York ahead of her flight to LA

Its funny how Gaga only dresses this way and takes her clothes off in public when she's trying to promote a new album. So fake. I would love to see what she was actually like in real life and not just the image that she tries to hard to portray. For someone that goes on and on about being yourself, I think every she does, says and wears is highly planned out.

Radwanska posted this photo on Facebook with the note "Thank You"Agnieszka Radwanska took a ride from an helicopter to get to Warsaw on Monday where she was awarded with the Gold Cross of Merit of the Republic of Poland."They let me fly it for a while. Awesome", said Agie on FacebookPoland's President Bronislaw Komorowski wanted to recognize the achievements of Radwanska, Jerzy Janowicz and Lukasz Kubot, who were also awarded with state honours (Silver Cross Medal) for their success at Wimbledon. "It was a Polish Wimbledon", said the chief of State.Photo by Anna KlepaczkoThe two fellow male Poles played against each other in the SW19 quarter-finals, with Janowicz getting to the semis only to lose to champion Andy Murray. Both players made history as they were the first Polish to get to the QF at Wimbledon since 1980. Janowicz became the first Polish male Grand Slam semi-finalist. But tennis fans will remember mostly their sportsmanship: Kubot and Janowicz hugged and exchanged shirts after their history-making Wimbledon QF.  You can watch that moment here.Radwanska got to the semis too, but was defeated by Sabine Lisicki, the losing finalist.
