UFC 159 Fight Card

After three weeks in a row of UFC fights, a whole season 17 of The Ultimate Fighter and a fight that could of been but wasn't at the cancelled UFC 151 we finally get to see light heavyweight Champion  Jon "Bones" Jones step into the octagon and put his belt on the line against Chael Sonnen at UFC 159 going down Saturday April 27th at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. The king of trash talk, Chael Sonnen started trying to get into Jones head just over a month ago and while we have not heard much of Jones feeding into it he did finally speak out during an interview accusing Sonnen of taking steroids his whole career and that is why he has to take TRT now. Jones did end up apologizing on Twitter the next day for the accusations, maybe not realizing Sonnen's trash talk has gotten to him more then her really thought. The co-main event will feature a grudge match between middleweights Michael Bisping and Alan Belcher. Both men have trash talked each other through the media so be prepared to watch a war with these two in the octagon.  Other fights on the main card will showcase a battle of UFC veteran vs. Strikeforce import Jim Miller and Pat Healy, Phil "Mr. Wonderful" Davis vs Vinny Magalhaes, Past TUF coach and winner Roy "Big Country" Nelson vs Cheick Kong. The Prelims will showcase a woman's bout against bantamweights Sara McMann vs Shiela "The German Tank" Gaff. Sara has spoken out previously about Ronda Rousey saying she doesn't see Rousey as an unstoppable force. Both McMann and Rousey have olympic medals. Rousey with Judo in 2008 and McMann in wrestling back in 2004. McMann thinks she will be a "really good match-up" for "Rowdy" inside the cage  However, Sara will have to wait for a bit for the fight with Rousey since she the rest of the year is mapped out already for Ronda with The Ultimate Fighter season 18 where she is coaching up against Cat Zingano. FFT's Final Mock

1.  Kansas City Chiefs - Eric Fisher, OTOK, my first  mock had Joekel, but I just like Fisher a little better and I think the Chiefs do as well.  Why?  I don't know, I just do.2.  Jacksonville Jaguars - Luke Joekel, OTThe Jags will be happy to take whatever tackle the Chiefs don't.3.  Miami Dolphins - Ezekiel Ansah, DEThe Dolphins move up, but not for Lane Johnson.  The Lions are dead set on taking Ansah and I think Miami leaps over them to make sure they get him.  They'll use one of their two second round picks to trade for Brandon Albert and if they can get Albert and Ansah with this draft, it will make them a real threat in the AFC East.4.  Philadelphia Eagles - Dion Jordon, OLBThe reports are that the Eagles love Mingo, but I can't see them taking him over Jordon, who already knows Kelly's defense.  I know most teams would love for them to do just that though.5.  Detroit Lions - Lane Johnson, OTWith Ansah now off the board, The Lions go with a blind-side protector for Matthew Stafford.Make the jump to see the rest...Read more »Fantasy Football Trenches - Where The Game Is Won

Steelers Pre-draft Visits Show That Defense Is Still A Priority

As the NFL's pre-draft visit period comes to a close, the total tally of the players entertained by the Pittsburgh Steelers tells a familiar tale. Back on January 8th, If It Ain't Steel wrote an article that said the fixing of the Steelers starts with defense. Apparently the Steelers themselves agree. Each NFL team is allowed 30 pre-draft visits. The Steelers total of 24 is more heavily represented by the defensive side (17) of the ball than the offensive side (7) of it. While there are holes over the entirety of the roster, the defensive side of the ball is...(ahem) more experienced and mature. Three of the four starters in the defensive backfield alone carry an average age of 33 as of the 2013 season. Aside from the array of pass rushers brought in (and I am a firm believer in the theory that you can't have too many players who can rush the passer), two things stand out when looking at the visiting players. The first being that the cornerbacks brought in indicate where the Steelers will be looking for that much needed youth and depth. It is of interest that of the cornerbacks making visits - Florida State's Xavier Rhodes, Utah State's Will Davis (whose interesting story is linked here: http://tinyurl.com/cjh26ad), UConn's Blidi Wreh-Wilson (pictured above), LSU's Tharold Simon and William & Mary's B.J. Webb - all but one are mid-round prospects. Are the third through the fifth rounds where they will look to pull the trigger on the position? The Steelers let unrestricted free agent CB Keenan Lewis walk via free agency, so that leaves Ike Taylor, Cortez Allen and William Gay as the only three who could be considered locks to make the 53-man roster next season. Bringing up the rear, as it were, behind them are Curtis Brown, DeMarcus Van Dyke, Josh Victorian, Isaiah Green and Justin King. Conventional wisdom dictates that only one or two of those five players make it onto the 53 man roster, and the odds favor only one if the Steelers invest a mid-round pick on another cornerback. The other thing that stood out was the lack of true five-technique defensive linemen to make their way to the South Side. Although Steelers.com says Utah’s Star Lotulelei, Florida’s Sharrif Floyd, BYU’s Ziggy Ansah (who himself could also play OLB) and Florida State’s Bjoern Werner are the top defensive line prospects in this month's NFL Draft (and players the Steelers could potentially select), none of those were brought in. In fact, none of the defensive linemen brought in were true defensive lineman. - http://tinyurl.com/cywjc8rThough Clemson's DE Malliciah Goodman was a pre-draft visitor, and though Georgia's DE Cornelius Washington has been linked to the Steelers as high as the second round and as low as the fifth round, the signing of Steve McLendon was likely an indication that any such pick would be in the lower rounds for depth and special teams purposes. One such player to consider might be Utah's Joe Kruger who declared early for the draft following his junior season. Per Gil Brandt of NFL.com, "Kruger - the younger brother of Paul Kruger, who was a member of the Super Bowl XLVII-champion Baltimore Ravens and just signed a lucrative free-agent contract with the Cleveland Browns - stood on all of his numbers from the combine. Kruger looked very good in the positional workouts." - http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1749704/joe-kruger"Paul ran me through what this was like for him, what the experience was like, how to calm myself down when things get tense," Joe Kruger said. "Things are going well. I'm prepared for it. I've met a lot of good people."Kruger, who led the team with six sacks, had two forced fumbles, an interception for a touchdown and blocked a field goal, has good size (6'6 3/8" 261 lbs.), quickness, and arm length. Has received plaudits for his effort and ability to bull-rush offensive linemen and he says he can play "all four positions on the defensive line."The pre-draft visits on the whole were: DE/OLB John Simon (3rd round prospect) - Ohio State; RB Christine Michael (4th rd pros.) - Texas A&M; ILB Vince Williams (7th rd pros.) - Florida State; OLB Jarvis Jones (1st rd pros.) - Georgia; OLB Jamie Collins (2-3 rd pros.) - Southern Mississippi; OLB Khaseem Greene (2-3 rd pros.) - Rutgers; SS Jonathan Meeks (7-FA rd pros.) - Clemson;S Phillip Thomas (2-3 rd pros.) - Fresno State; ILB Michael Mauti (5th rd pros.) - Penn State;DE Malliciah Goodman (4th rd pros.) - Clemson; WR Josh Boyce (2-3 rd pros.) - Texas Christian; RB Johnathan Franklin (2nd rd pros.) - UCLA; SS Shamarko Thomas (3rd rd pros.) - Syracuse; CB Will Davis (5th rd pros.) - Utah State; G Nic Embernate (6-7 rd pros.) - San Diego State; CB Blidi Wreh-Wilson (3rd rd pros.) - Connecticut; CB Xavier Rhodes (1st rd pros.) - FSU;LB Sio Moore (4th rd pros.) - Connecticut.CB Tharold Simon (4-5 rd pros.) - LSU;CB B.W. Webb (4-5 rd pros.) - William & Mary;SS Duke Williams (5-6 rd pros.) - UNR;RB Eddie Lacy (1-2 rd pros.) - Alabama;WR Justin Brown (7-FA pros.) - Oklahoma;and WR Tavarres King (4-5 rd pros.) - Georgia.(This list will be updated if any more pre-draft visits occur on Monday or Tuesday.)~TIDBITS: "Heath (Miller) is working out and he looks great," Ben Roethlisberger said during an appearance on 102.5 WDVE. "He's walking without a limp. From what I saw I think he looked good." - http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2013/4/17/4235778/heath-miller-injury-update-looks-great~Antonio Brown is grateful to have Emmanuel Sanders back. - http://tinyurl.com/c5uusqc ~In "the most unkindest cut of all," Ex-Steeler Harrison signs with the Cincinnati Bengals. NUGS play #DUBnation in Planet ORACLE and find themselves in the neighboring BLACK HOLE of RAIDERS Nation...GSW 110 NUGGETS 108...GSW stands on #WarriorsGround 2-1 #GSWbiz

The Denver Nuggets are in trouble and maybe the absence of SF Danillo Gallanari is taking its toll not making any excuses for the Nugs. The Battle was fierce but the Warriors hang onto win 110-108 as they move up in the Series 2-1. The Game was definitely one of the better game you will see in NBA Winning Time but the Point God Match Up was Pay-Per-View for sure.Nuggets Point God Ty Lawson and GSW's Young Steph Curry both go O-Zone Layer in the Same Jet Pack and took on all comers. The Numbers Lawson vs Curry: LAWdawg 35 pts 10 assists 3 rebs 11/22 FG 12/12 FTYoung STEPH 29 pts 11 assts 6 rebs 8/17 FG 4/7 3pt FG 9/9 FTThe Nugs also get 16 points from Corey Brewer and 15 points from the "MANimal" Faried. While GSW and Curry get 23 points from Jarrett Jack and 19 points from Barnes. As evenly matched that match up was the game was even better as the Nuggets took a 66-54 lead at the break then the game slowed down as both teams played a little defense and imagine that..."D" in an NBA Game in Winning Time aka "Stops". The Warriors came right out in the 3rd frame and took the lead after three closing a 33-18 3rd frame to make it 87-84.The Nuggets stayed close as it went back and forth until Iggy of Mile High 40-footer hit the front of the rim an bounced off and GSW goes up 2-1. Thirty-Nine Turnovers is not going to get it done and the only reason the game wasn't 140-138. Now the Nugs need to go back to the drawing board and they must have Game 4 or the series might be over.

Miami Dolphins 2013 Uniforms **UPDATE**

The Miami Dolphins introduced a new logo several weeks back and a loud roar of angry Phin fans was heard throughout the NFL on social media sites as people were very upset about the new logo. I was one of those upset by the logo as I felt it was too "happy" and not fierce enough compared to their previous logo.Upon releasing the logo, the team announced that on April 25th, 2013 they would introduce their fans to the new uniforms. Well, thanks to some kind people out in the world, the new uniforms have been leaked. Thankfully, the uniforms are not as bad as the Jacksonville Jaguars set, but they are not an improvement over last years set either.**UPDATE**Today Nike released the new Dolphins uniforms to the public and I honestly say that I am rather disappointed. The team introduced the white uniform which means the aqua will only be used 1 or 2 times a year and that is a shame. The white uniform is bland, boring, plain and more importantly a downgrade from their previous set. I HATE the new orange color as they not only change from Coral to Orange, but they made it less relevant in the uniform. The stripes are awful compares to their last set and the white facemask is not aqua. The main reason I do not love this new uniform is because of the changes made to the colors of the Dolphins. The new aqua shade is not very good and they removed the navy and replaced it with blue. Thanks to my friend ColorWerx he has provided the differences between the colors from last year to this year.Leaked Overall Grade 5.5 out of 10**UPDATE** Official Uniform Unveil Overall Grade (Guess with chart) 4.7 out of 10.

feedback from our shows in Kitchener performing the music of Annie Lennox

We loved performing the songs of Annie Lennox with the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony on March 20-21, and we've had great feedback, thank you! So glad you enjoyed the shows as much as we did.***********************"I would just like to say how much I enjoyed last night's performance. It was probably one of the most enjoyable my wife and I have seen in the 6 or 7 years we've been coming. The vocal teamwork and obvious joy of the presentation left us leaving wanting more...and craving pancakes! It was great seeing all of the very talented women take centre stage, literally. Thanks, Greg & Marianne Noakes"***********************"I have had a subscription for Jeans n Classics in KW since it began at Centre in the Square I think 11 years ago. I have often commented on the fact that the women are primarily backup singers with the odd solo until this past show (there was another one in the first or second year, I think at Christmas)! Finally....sisters are doing it for themselves! This song was such a great anthem back in the day and a great encore choice. The only thing I would suggest is that you invite all of the “sisters” to stand and sing along with the chorus; we were dying to stand up and move and this would be a great way to end the show. Otherwise I loved the variety of voices and ability to have various combinations of singers; each has their own unique qualities. Looking forward to hearing more from all of you. Thanks for a great show. Adrienne Gilbert"***********************Backstage after performing the music of the incomparable Annie Lennox with the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony.
